Making contact with ourselves

An interesting article in The Guardian (click here) which has some useful techniques on how to calm ourselves at time of stress. As the author writes “I want you to notice your breathing. Stop reading this for 10 seconds or so and notice how you breathe. OK, take 20 seconds now, and it doesn’t matter if it’s longer or shorter than that – I really want you to notice the in-breath and then your out-breath. This is you having contact with yourself in the present’. This is so helpful as often when we are triggered or in fight or flight we lose touch with ourselves, our body is sending us signals (and sometimes it is screaming them at us) and it is helpful to take the time and reconnect with ourselves.
