Choosing a counsellor to work with can sometimes be overwhelming and so I hope this page shares some of how I work and how I can help. At the heart of the work we do is the relationship and I believe in the importance of finding a space that feels comfortable and safe. We need time to help make the choice as to who we connect with and I therefore offer an initial free 30 minute session by phone as an opportunity for us to get to know each other.

About me and how I work….

I aim to offer a space where you can be truly listened to and understood and where we can take time to explore where you are and what you need.

Throughout our lives we make connections; with others (our friends, family, children, work colleagues etc.) or with ourselves through our thoughts, emotions, and body. These connections can bring joy, contentment and happiness but also confusion, grief, anxiety, depression or feelings of heaviness or fogginess.

As a trained counsellor I can help you through this and we can explore these connections; examine them, understand them, experience them, and work out what it is you need. Through this you will find greater insight, understanding and acceptance.

My belief is that everyone has the capacity to grow and change. Sometimes this can be challenging, but this process can lead to the changes you desire. The connection we build will ensure you’ll feel comfortable and validated at all times.

My qualifications and experience…..

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I believe passionately in continuing to grow my knowledge and experience and regularly read and research as well as attend professional training.

As a counsellor I explore how we connect to our thoughts, emotions and body. I draw on learning from Gestalt theory as well as the latest neuroscience, Polyvagal and nervous system informed practise. We are all unique as individuals and this means each counselling relationship is also unique. I aim to respond to your needs; whether this is leaning into the need for knowledge, experience, support, creativity or exploration.

We each have our own unique reason to seek counselling. It may be you have a mental health diagnosis such as anxiety or depression, or you may be dealing with a significant life event such as trauma, loss or relationship breakdown or it may be that things just don't feel right anymore. Whatever has brought you here, I am here to help you.

In addition, I have worked with clients to support them through the pressures of cross-cultural living as well as working with parents as they navigate the parenting journey. I have also done a lot of research into the effect trauma and neglect may have on our bodies, mind and emotional well being.

I have twenty years life experience working in education, training and the performing arts and work both short and long term with clients.

I offer a 30-minute introductory no obligation appointment as an opportunity for us both to get to know each other and to get a sense of how we will work together.

I charge £65 per session (50 minutes) and offer face-to-face counselling in central York in our comfortable and spacious rooms just off Bishopthorpe Road.

Please don’t hesitate to give me a call on 07764 528138 if you would like to find out more about how we can work together.

“Most of our conscious brain is dedicated to focusing on the outside world: getting along with others and making plans for the future. However that doesn't not help us manage ourselves. Neuroscience research shows that the only way we can change the way we feel is becoming aware of our inner experience and learning to befriend what is going on inside ourselves”
