Claire Glover
Counselling is more than two people sitting in a room. It is how we connect and together create a space that feels comfortable and safe to explore what it is you would like help with. I offer an initial 30 minute phone session as an opportunity for us to start to get to know each other better.
How Claire works as a counsellor
I offer a space where you can be truly listened to and understood and where we can take time to explore where you are and what you need.
Throughout our lives we make connections; with others (our friends, family, children, work colleagues etc.) or with ourselves through our thoughts, emotions, and body. These connections can bring joy, contentment and happiness but also confusion, grief, anxiety, depression or feelings of heaviness or fogginess.
As a trained counsellor I can help you through this and we can explore these connections; examine them, understand them, experience them, and work out what it is you need. Through this you will find greater insight, understanding and acceptance.
My belief is that everyone has the capacity to grow and change. Sometimes this can be challenging, but this process can lead to change. The connection we build will ensure you feel comfortable and validated at all times.
I am experienced in supporting people with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, loss/grief, relationship breakdown and childhood emotional neglect. I have worked with people encountering difficulties within their professional or academic setting. I work in a trauma informed way, bringing curiosity and compassion to our work and helping acknowledge that strategies and ways of being that may have helped us in the past may no longer be doing so. I understand how all of our brains work differently and can explore this within our session.Together we can work to understand ourselves and make the changes we would like.
Claire’s qualifications and experience
I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I have a Diploma in Counselling Supervision accredited with the UKCP and work as a supervisor and a trainer. I believe passionately in continuing to grow my knowledge and experience and regularly read and research as well as attend professional training.
I have twenty years life experience working in mental health, education and performing arts and have lived and worked overseas for a period of time. I work both short and long term with clients from comfortable and private rooms in the centre of York .
As a counsellor I explore how we connect to our thoughts, emotions and body. I draw on learning from Gestalt theory as well as the latest neuroscience, Polyvagal and nervous system informed practise. We are all unique as individuals and this means each counselling relationship is unique. I aim to respond to your needs; whether this is leaning into your need for knowledge, support, creativity or to help you explore what your needs may be.
I offer a 30-minute introductory no obligation telephone call as an opportunity for us to get to know each other and to get a sense of how we will work together.
I charge £65 per session (50 minutes) and offer face-to-face counselling in central York in our comfortable and spacious rooms just off Bishopthorpe Road.
Please don’t hesitate to give me a call on 07764 528138 if you would like to find out more about how we can work together.
